Dramatic End Sees County Win
16th August 2011
Jeff Hughes kept his cool to net a penalty deep into stoppage time that gave Notts County a thrilling 3-2 win over Tranmere Rovers at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night.
There was plenty of action in a game that saw 10 yellow card and two late reds dished out by referee Michael Naylor.
And with the game finely balanced at 2-2 and the ref getting ready to signal full time, Adam McGurk handled the ball on the line, was sent off to join team mate David Raven who had already gone and Jeff Hughes netted from twelve yards to give County all the points.
Earlier Tranmere had taken the lead after ten minutes when a corner caught out Notts and John Welsh smashed the ball into the top corner of the net from the edge of the area.
Thats the way things stayed until early in the second half when the goal that County had been threatening finally came from Justin Kelly who volleyed home.
And it didn`t take long before County when Alan Sheehan sent in a curling free kick and Krystian Pearce glanced the ball past the keeper for 2-1.
Substitute Joss Labadie levelled things for Rovers with a dodgy free kick that took a deflection on the way in, leaving the game primed for a dramatic finish.
