I can understand him not wanting to relocate down there at this stage in his career. I'd be surprised if Notts were to give him a new deal though.

I guess he thinks he now has a chance to impress the new manager.

I really think he's an asset to the club as a coach and mentor, so wouldn't mind him being offered a new player/coach deal in the summer..... but surely even his biggest fan can see he shouldn't be starting league games.

Agree, he seems a good influence in the dressing room but any future contract has to be on the coaching rather than playing side.

Agreed, we have enough midfield talent not to require Smith as a player. if he enjoys the coaching aspect then I'm sure he would be a great guy to have around, maybe play him in the reserves to help pass on his experience along side up and coming players.

He was brought in as player/coach so hopefully he will just be a coach now.

I get the impression that he wants to keep playing but, as others have said, his presence in a coaching capacity would surely be a good thing.
