Well done to the youth team for progressing to the 2nd round of the F.A Youth Cup with a 2-0 victory over Northampton. Montel Gibson's name seems to keep getting on the scoresheet. I used to watch the youth team every now and then back in the days of Kelvin Wilson, Leon Best and Shaun Harrad. We had a good team back then. I don't know if any of you get down to see the current crop. It would be great to get a few more following in the footsteps of Curtis Thompson and Haydn Hollis in the next couple of years.

The reserve team will prove vital in helping these youngsters make the transition to 1st team football. Seeing Bishop's name on the score sheet yesterday was great - he was scoring for fun for the youth team but is nowhere near the starting 11 yet. In the past he'd be in danger of getting lost in the wilderness but now these youngsters have a genuine chance to progress through the ranks.

I agree. The only concern I would have so far about the reserves is the standard of opposition. Obviously, the reserve team is about getting injured players fit and providing a stepping stone to the first 11 for youth team players but the results so far (which have obviously been magnificent) tend to suggest that there is a mismatch between the quality of our reserves and those of other teams. That lack of competition won't do us any favours but you can't blame Notts for that.

I know what you mean... It feels a little unfair, us sending out a team with Jimmy Spencer, Genaro Snijders et al. to play in a league that seems to be mainly made up of children and trialists... but it's better than nothing and for young players to be playing regularly can only be a good thing. I just hope we start seeing the evidence that this is working - i.e. players actually transitioning to the first team - sooner rather than later.

Any game is better than meaningless friendlies to get players fit and improving.

It's true that the quality of opposition is unknown, but yesterday the reserve team beat Rotherham 7-0. It would be interesting to get an idea of the strength of the Rotherham side, but as a club two divisions higher than us I can't see it being that weak. Good to see the 'M' squad (Murray, Milsom, McKenzie) back in action.

The youth team made it through to the 3rd round of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-1 win over Rochdale last night. I think that's now 8 wins out of 9. A brilliant effort.

Bodes well if they can progress up through the ranks.

It would be great if we could produce another Tommy, Drapes or Dean Yates. There's obviously some talent there and Montel Gobson's name is rarely off the scoresheet.
