'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Notts County 2-0 Osasuna

Notts County's final pre season game of the summer ended on a high note as we played well and beat Spanish second division side CA Osasuna at Meadow Lane.

Goals came from trialist and 37 year old Gary Jones and skipper Hayden Mullins to give us the comfortable victory and erase some previous disappointment from recent games ahead of the League One opener against Preston North End next weekend.

Another trialist Roy Carroll was impressive again keeping a clean sheet and pulling off two saves in particular before we took the lead, and he'll have no doubt enjoyed the chant of 'sign him up' from the fans on the day.

Jones opened the scoring with a dipping left footed half volley, and Ronan Murray was unlucky not to double our advantage when he had the ball in the net himself, but it was ruled out for offside.

It didn't take us too long to add a second though and this time Jones turned provider, whipping in a free kick that Mullins powered home.

The first half was certainly the highlight of the game, with the second half petering out somewhat as changes were made, but we arguably had the best of that half as well with chances falling to both Zeli Ismail and Ronan Murray in particular.

Derry would've finished the game in far better spirits than he did against Birmingham though, and it was a solid performance that drew a lie under that game.
