Derry Delighted With Ugly But Gutsy Win
Manager Shaun Derry said his happiest two moments of the Easter Monday encounter against Crawley Town were our goal, and the full time whistle.
It was a tight, scrappy and nervy affair all game long, and Crawley in the second half certainly put us under pressure and bombarded the goal with a great number of chances than we created on the day, but thankfully Spencer's 34th minute goal was enough to separate the two sides at full time and the gaffer knows we had to dig deep for those three points.
Speaking to the Official Site following the game, he explained.
'It was horrible and I didn't enjoy that one bit - that was probably the worst I've been on the sidelines for. What an afternoon it was, but we really needed to dig in there.'
Derry goes on to say that it's 'full credit' to Crawley because their season is over, they are safe, but they came into the game and 'gave us an almighty task.'
'They put us on the back foot and after half time I said to the lads there'd be times where they'd really have to defend for their lives. With a little bit of luck, we've managed to come out on top and I've got to say about the character of the boys, this is exactly what I wanted in the delivery.'
Of course the gaffer was also pleased with the response to the Bristol Rovers defeat, because he knows we played well that day and deserved more from the match, so to come back to Meadow Lane, have a game like that which was so 'nerve wracking' was a fantastic response from the team.
'We've had some great wins here, but they have been with a lot of goals. We've not won too many games 1-0.'
On to Swindon with everything still to fight for.
