Manager Shaun Derry has blasted our performance in the five one defeat to Walsall yesterday and said it was simply unacceptable from the players.
Speaking to the Official Site the gaffer said that the players had to show a reaction to that defeat in our next game, and they could apologise to the supporters by picking up three points at the next time of asking.
'We've come a long way in a short space of time and this does feel like a huge backward step and that's not acceptable. I've said to the lads that they can go home and finger point and make excuses but ultimately we get judged on what happens on a Saturday afternoon. I don't want us to put this at the back of our minds when we come in on Monday, I want us to take stock of what's happened.'
Derry goes on to say that he felt we had been making huge strides recently, and one bad result doesn't change that, but clearly it's an opportunity to learn something from it so we can continue to improve and move forward, and for that loss to have meant something and be beneficial for us, there simply has to be a reaction from the players in our next game.
He admits that the players apologised after the match, but for him that apology only means something if they respond the right way, work genuinely hard in training, be honest about their own performances, and give everything next match to show that this was a blip, a one off, and we get back to the standards we have been setting for ourselves.
We have been doing well lately, and we knew there would be hiccups, but I don't think anybody really thought we'd have a hiccup quite this violently, but defensively there were issues from the Peterborough game, and unfortunately yesterday we couldn't summon the same levels in attack.
